2019 Spirometry Standard Update

NBRC’s official statement on the 2019 ATS/ERS Spirometry Standard Update is as follows:

Candidates pursuing a credential in pulmonary function technology should anticipate that examination items will continue to be based on the 2005 American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society standards titled “Standardisation of Spirometry” that were published in the European Respiratory Journal – https://erj.ersjournals.com/content/erj/26/2/319.full.pdf. The NBRC will release a notice when the 2019 spirometry standards will affect examination content.

Those who want to learn about the 2019 standards before they affect examination content will find them published under the title, “Standardization of Spirometry 2019 Update: An Official American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society Technical Statement” in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Volume 200, Number 8, October 15, 2019, pp. 70-88.
