Message From the President

Happy New Year to all! As we enter 2025, I am reminded of the legacy of the NBRC as we celebrate 65 years of promoting excellence in respiratory care. It is my honor and privilege to serve as the next President of the NBRC Board of Trustees, an institution dedicated to upholding the standard for quality respiratory care. As we look to the future, I am eager and excited to see what we accomplish together.

Here is a little bit about me – I work as the Asthma Program Coordinator for Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. For over 30 years, I have been lucky enough to pursue and perfect my passion in respiratory care, applying my skills, knowledge, and experiences to help save and improve lives. Additionally, I have served on the NBRC Board of Trustees since 2019, using my expertise to work alongside extraordinary respiratory care professionals in various specialty areas. These experiences have prepared me for the opportunity to serve as President of the NBRC Board of Trustees.

The NBRC’s goals remain steadfast as our talented professionals collaborate on several key initiatives to advance the respiratory care profession and ensure its future. We remain deeply committed to the ongoing success of the MoreRTs campaign, a collaborative effort aimed at increasing awareness of the vital role respiratory therapists play in healthcare. We will continue to highlight incredible stories of heroism and selflessness in the world of respiratory care; if you want to learn more or even share a story of your own, please visit MoreRTs.com. These joint efforts with the AARC and CoARC reflect our shared commitment to supporting the outstanding work you do as educators, leaders and practitioners.

Furthermore, the NBRC will continue to make strides in elevating the profession of respiratory care by promoting the benefit of obtaining advanced credentials, developing an Advanced Practice Respiratory Therapist (APRT) outcomes assessment, continuing to work towards a single multiple-choice examination to be released in 2027 and safeguarding the security and fairness of the NBRC’s examination programs will remain top priorities as we look forward.

As we embark on this journey together, I am inspired by the incredible dedication of respiratory therapists across the country. Your commitment to patient care, education and innovation drives our shared success and is a display of clinical excellence that the NBRC holds paramount. With great excitement for the future, I am proud to serve as NBRC President.

With sincerity,

Joyce A. Baker, MBA, RRT, RRT-NPS, AE-C, FAARC
