Message from the NBRC President

On behalf of the National Board for Respiratory Care, I want to thank all respiratory therapists across the country who are working countless hours to care for patients with COVID-19 and other pulmonary disorders. There is no greater gift in life than the ability to breathe well, and your commitment to excellence in respiratory care is saving lives. Your willingness to remain united with your professional colleagues in these trying times truly exemplifies who you are as a person, and what we all stand for together as a health care profession.

The COVID-19 outbreak knows no boundaries – it will touch every life on earth in some way. As respiratory care professionals, we have risen to the challenge and will continue to do so because the world needs us now more than ever. Together and individually, we will help as many patients as we possibly can. We will work hard – very hard – but we will still find ourselves wanting to do more, tirelessly looking for more ways to help. We will grieve every loss and celebrate every triumph. We will be innovative in our approach to care and we will learn from our successes as well as our failures. In the end, each of us will be stronger, smarter, and more resilient.

As respiratory care professionals, we may not always get the recognition we deserve. At NBRC, we are working to change that – and very soon, we will be sharing more information on how you can join our efforts. For now, please accept this message of heartfelt gratitude and encouragement. From all of us at NBRC, we support you, we stand by you, and we thank you…today and every day.

Please take time to remind yourself as often as you can: You are saving lives and the world is grateful.

Stay well and stay strong,
