2022 Examinations in Review

Every year we publish an annual summary of results for all seven of our credentialing examinations to inform the public, potential candidates and those currently holding NBRC credentials. We’re excited to report as of December 31, 2022, the total number of NBRC credentials awarded reached 536,787!

Achieving NBRC credentials is a true demonstration of the skills and strengths required for providing the highest quality respiratory patient care. As hundreds of thousands of credentialed practitioners will attest, success instills a sense of pride and demonstrates exceptional knowledge and competency.

All NBRC examinations are written and developed by a committee of credentialed respiratory therapists and pulmonary function technologists, as well as physicians who specialize in pulmonary and critical care. This method ensures we are assessing relevant clinical skill sets for excellence in respiratory care.

The link below contains two summaries. The first has 2022 data for examinations administered and credentials awarded, broken down by exam and credential. The second is a pass rate comparison of the last three years, for both new and repeat candidates.

On behalf of the Board and staff at the NBRC, congratulations to all our credentialed practitioners who worked hard to achieve one or more of our credentials in 2022!
