2025 Respiratory Care Scholarships and Awards
Students, scholarship and award applications are now live! Through our support of the American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF), the American College of Respiratory Therapy Education (ACRTE) and The Lambda Beta Society, we’re able to continue to promote and advance the respiratory care profession with our contributions to scholarships and awards.
The following awards and scholarships from The Lambda Beta Society, ARCF and ACRTE support respiratory care students’ and practitioners’ educational journeys. Lambda Beta Society and ARCF scholarships and awards will be presented in December at the annual American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) International Congress in Phoenix, AZ.
LAMBDA BETA SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS
Apply by May 31, 2025
Any student currently enrolled in a respiratory care program at a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited school may apply. These awards also include $750 in travel expenses and full registration to this year’s AARC International Congress in Phoenix, AZ. Candidates must meet application requirements. The following award is funded by the NBRC.
NBRC Leadership Award – Up to $5,000 each
Presented to a student who has shown exemplary leadership in their educational career as well as volunteer and community service. The Lambda Beta Society may award two scholarships up to $5,000 each.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED BY THE LAMBDA BETA SOCIETY

Frederic Helmholz, MD Scholarship – Up to $2,500
Presented on the merit of an independent, original narrative review of literature related to respiratory care practice.

CoARC Stephen P. Mikles, EdD, RRT, FAARC Media Award – $2,000
This $2,000 award is sponsored by CoARC. It is presented on the merits of an original presentation of electronic slides in PowerPoint or other presentation formats, or video presentation relevant to respiratory care and must comply with the application requirements and deadline.

Brad Leidich Memorial Scholarship – Up to $1,500
This award will be presented to a first-generation student enrolled in an associate degree program in respiratory therapy, who has shown exemplary academic performance, and has demonstrated a commitment to his/her career goals, and scholarly and community activities in respiratory care.

AMERICAN RESPIRATORY CARE FOUNDATION AWARDS
Apply by June 1, 2025
ARCF has several award opportunities. The following are awards funded by the NBRC. In addition to any cash award and recognition certificate, these awards also include airfare, lodging and registration for AARC Congress.
NBRC Gareth B. Gish, MS, RRT, Memorial Postgraduate Education Recognition Award – Up to $5,000
Presented to a respiratory therapist pursuing postgraduate education leading to an advanced degree.
NBRC William W. Burgin, Jr., MD & Robert M. Lawrence, MD Education Recognition Award – Up to $7,500
Presented to a third- or fourth-year student enrolled in a CoARC-accredited respiratory therapy program leading to a baccalaureate degree.
NBRC Frederic Helmholz, Jr., MD Educational Research Fund – up to $5,000
Awarded to an individual or institution for educational or credentialing research, a Master’s thesis, or Doctoral dissertation with practical value to the respiratory care profession.
NBRC Gary A. Smith Educational Award for Innovation in Education Achievement – up to $2,500
Recognizes innovative educational methods in formal respiratory care education programs, clinical education training programs, and patient education programs that address current challenges in respiratory care education.

AMERICAN COLLEGE OF RESPIRATORY THERAPY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS
